OBIE-winning theater company Hoi Polloi seeks performers interested in participating in our production of Celine Song's play, Family, being presented at La MaMa Sept. 12 - 28. We're putting together an ensemble that will enter and sing at a critical moment of the performance, for likely no longer than 4 - 5 minutes. No singing skills or musical experience necessary as the music, composed by Steven Leffue, will likely involve as series of prompts as opposed to learning musical notes on a page. Influences of his as a composer include Iannis Xenakis (who composed much of the choral music in Kubrick’s 2001) and Karlheinz Stockhausen. It’s unusual music that has a strong, visceral element, allowing us to achieve a highly dramatic effect in the production.

This is a non-paying opportunity, and is a non-union production. Each ensemble member will have access to one complimentary ticket for the run. There will be 17 performances total over three weeks, of which we are asking for participation in at least 12 performances. There will be approximately 4 - 5 rehearsals prior to the first performance, likely starting the week of September 2.
