TICKETS, available here.

In this kaleidoscopic dance-theater piece by OBIE-winning theater company Hoi Polloi (Celine Song’s Family, Three Pianos), over 20 performers depict a community reeling in the aftermath of the recent U.S. election. Blending humor and darkness, the ensemble shares text, music and movement that reflect a cacophony of anxieties, anger, and strategies of those on the political left. Winning is Winning marks a return for Hoi Polloi to the large ensemble format typical in its early years, exemplified by work such as The less we talk, and All Hands.

Alec Duffy (Director) is a playwright and director, and the founder of both Hoi Polloi and the Brooklyn performance venue JACK. He has created many original works with Hoi Polloi, including Dysphoria, The Less We Talk, and All Hands. In 2010, he shared an OBIE Award for Three Pianos, a paean to Schubert's Winterreise song cycle, co-written and performed with Dave Malloy and Rick Burkhardt in a production directed by Rachel Chavkin that toured to New York Theatre Workshop and American Repertory Theater after its premiere at Incubator Arts Project. In addition to his work with Hoi Polloi, he directed acclaimed productions of T.S. Eliot’s Murder in the Cathedral at The Cathedral of St. Joseph in Brooklyn, and the English-language premiere of Yukio Shiba’s Our Planet at Japan Society. His production of Moto Osada’s opera Four Nights of Dream premiered at Japan Society in 2017 and toured to the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. Duffy studied at L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq and is a Drama League Directing Fellow.

¡Oye! Group (Co-presenter) is a Bushwick-based creative incubator for artists, students, and community members of all ages, both local and immigrant to New York City. Our work is grounded in the act of listening that gave us our company name: we curate art that sparks a dialogue over the political and social issues that our community tells us are critical to them. We present an eclectic mix of theater, dance, poetry, music, video installations, and film through festivals and productions. We work with emerging artists to create, play, and grow in an environment that challenges and supports them, and we engage youth and adults alike through high-quality arts education that provides them with the tools to generate forward-thinking art that compliments the work on our stages.

Hoi Polloi is grateful for support for this production from Lora Chio, Jan Tuchman, and Joe Rosta.
